Living with Financial Instruments under IFRS - Part 1: Basic Financial Instruments
14 June 2012
12.00 ► 16.00 ► Recording ►
Let's face it - financial instruments appear in all parts of business life, from simple trade receivables and payables right through to complex instruments that could be part of a formal hedging arrangement
The other indisputable fact is that IFRS is becoming the dominant financial reporting framework worldwide - current estimates suggest it will the system being used by over 60% of the world's largest entities by 2020. That fact, combined with the increasing take-up worldwide of the IFRS for SMEs, means that we all need to get to grips with what IFRS requires when recording, valuing, presenting and disclosing financial instruments. For those of you who may be reading this in the UK or Eire, it is highly likely to be of relevance to all non-small entities from 2015 (at the latest)
This webinar looks at basic financial instruments - this is a term used in the IFRS for SMEs but it is also a convenient description for straightforward instruments including shares, trade receivables and payables, loans and equity investments. It will clarify the four key stages of dealing with these financial instruments, namely:
1. Identification
2. Classification
3. Measurement
4. Impairment
It will also discuss the various levels of disclosures required in full IFRS, the IFRS for SMEs and the proposed FRS 102 in the UK and Eire
There will another webinar which will consider more complex financial instruments. While each webinar is a standalone product, we suggest that if you want a more comprehensive look at this important area, subscribing to both could be a very good idea
