Charles Gubbins

Charles has been developing and presenting practical training courses for over twenty years and is widely acknowledged as one of the leading presenters on financial reporting and auditing matters. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1979 and moved into training in 1981. Over the years he has developed his presentational style into something of a multimedia experience – feedback received suggests this makes the technical material more palatable!

Charles' specialist skills are in the areas of auditing, financial reporting, company law and corporate governance. He has travelled extensively to speak on these matters reflecting his significant depth of knowledge of both UK and International Accounting and Auditing Standards. His client base includes the public sector, professional bodies, accounting firms and companies in a diverse range of business activities. Charles’ private sector client base ranges from small and medium sized accounting practices through to FTSE - 100 listed clients (and some of their auditors). He has also presented training courses to all UK Government departments and many of their agencies and lectures extensively in the Health Service.

Michael Steed

Michael is Kaplan Hawksmere’s leading authority on indirect taxes, working closely with both practice and industry clients providing highly bespoke products to meet their exact training needs.

After training with Coopers & Lybrand, Michael took a VAT specialist route gaining FTII status with his thesis on VAT groups. He gained practical experience of both indirect and direct taxes while working for Coopers which he is now able to usefully apply to the exacting requirements of the Kaplan Hawksmere customers.

He has worked with the likes of HMRC, AAH pharmaceuticals, The AAT, Grant Thornton and Barclays Wealth Management.
